This 2 hour tape covers hands-one techniques which are hard for some students to understand from text and illustrations by themselves. The two hours of video taped suturing lessons can be your private tutor until you feel competent with the techniques presented. To get the best use of the tape, I suggest that you read Healing Passage first, especially the chapters on Suturing Equipment and Checking for Tears (which are not covered in detail on the tape). See the list of lessons for an outline of tape contents.
The tape is meant to supplement Healing Passage but does not, in any way, replace it. The script for the tape was written to communicate the techniques simply. The manual has other, equally vital information for your review and is intended as a complete written guide. Therefore, the manual is available separately for those who do not wish to purchase the tape and for study groups and organizations who wish to purchase one tape among them.
The presentation of material is somewhat different on the tape than it is in the manual because different mediums call for different methods. However, the techniques are presented from enough angles so that the manual and tape compliment each other. The video compliments the book by demonstrating in three dimensions female pelvic anatomy and selected hands-on techniques which are hard for some students to grasp in written format. They are designed so that once you have practiced with the tape, the diagrams and explanations in the manual should jar your memory and be of use to you at births. If you can only afford one of these items, purchase the book. The tape can always be ordered later.
